**** There's no other way to describe this song but intense. From the guitars, piano, percussion and whatever other instruments are featured in the intro, to the lyrics, and the vocals from both Matt and featured vocalist Eve Owen, everything about this sounds huge. Eve delivers a real sense of desperation with her vocals during over a solid minute of questioning to kcik off the vocals, and that sense only grows as the questioning continues. It feels quite intense, and that doesn't let up when she's joined with backup vocals, which then eventually take the lead in the repeated interrogation. When Matt finally stops with the questions it feels like the pressure might ease a little, but that's only a temporary relief, because it doesn't. His verse is packed with intensity and desperation, particularly during the second half when Eve returns with her questions to accompany his troubles. The two build the drama together, and along with the drums, the song just keeps growing in energy. Finally things hit a peak and begin to ease off to close out the song, but what a ride it was to get there. This is intense and excellent. |
