This track took quite a long time to grow on me after I just found it average at first. The opening is pleasant enough; with Matt and the featured vocalist (both Lisa Hannigan and Sharon Van Etten provide vocals on this one; I'm not sure who sings where) sounding great together. After the opening comes a sudden change when Matt starts delivering a lyrically bizarre monologue, which I found somewhat offputting originally, but now I enjoy it in all it's eccentricity. Following the monologue comes the highlight of the track, a dramatic portion where Matt is singing with an immense drum beat and a great guitar riff. It feels so huge and really stands out. After this, one of the female vocalists delivers a monologue the way Matt did earlier; it doesn't feature the same kind of lyrical oddities, but it feels more genuine and honest. From here we lead into a more standard sound, with two vocalists sharing duties on the same lyrics from the opening to close the song out. This is strange in the best kind of way. |
